Tell Premier Campbell What You Think
About His Energy Task Force

Be bold, be blunt, be forceful.

This action could be the most important you take on this issue.

Your letter will be emailed directly to Premier Gordon Campbell.

Premier Campbell,

I am writing to urge you to extend the deadline for submissions to the Green Energy Advisory Task Force until April 2010 to allow for public hearings to be held throughout the Province. Your decision to implement an extremely short submission deadline from November 30th to December 31st, 2009, which is interrupted by the holiday season, is designed to ensure the reception of very few submissions from the public. As it stands, this Task Force is neither transparent nor accountable to British Columbians. The four panels are now meeting behind closed doors, with no opportunity for public participation or scrutiny. In order to have a transparent and accountable process, your government must create opportunities for the public to meet with the panels and make submissions.

Premier Campbell, you took away citizens’ and communities’ rights to have a say in any private power project with Bill 30 and now you are trampling over the public’s independent regulator, the BC Utilities Commission, which recently found private river power is unnecessary, too expensive, and not the public interest. Action is urgently needed, because the Premier’s Executive Task Force could commit us to hundreds of environmentally destructive energy projects that will destroy our wild rivers and lock us into private control of our energy policies. Without these necessary changes we can only conclude that this Task Force is an exercise in pure green-wash.
